Omaha Carnival - Nov 2009

Despite reasonable surf conditions on the West Coast, this event was moved to the sheltered enclave of Omaha. Muriwai fronted with a slightly below strength team due to the exam season being in full flight.

The biggest highlight of the day was the overall points result achieved by the team. Muriwai with 155 points, finished second behind Orewa. This was an awesome achievement, and was a direct result of all of the team doing their very best in every event that they entered into. Muriwai demonstrated its growing strength in surf sports by gained placings across all categories of competition.

The Open Boat Crew had a very good showing and were in strong contention during each of their races. The Womens Crew, gained a very creditable 3rd place overall. Alison Cragie, from the womens crew, took out the U19 Womens Beach Flags, Muriwai also took out 5 of the 6 top places in this event.

In the Sports Arena, the U19's laid the foundation for the overall Muriwai result by convincing beating out all of the other teams. Andrew Whyte and Tom Clarke were consistantly in the front of the field in their preferred events, surf race and craft respectively. Emma Wilson and Anna Mickel grafted away in multiple events to bring in a large swag of points.

Courtney McConnichie is proving to be a force to be reckoned with in the Open Women's events and David Butt showed that he has still got it, gaining a very creditable second in one of his board races.

Not satisfied with dominating their own age group, the U16 girls did a fine job of bolstering the points talley by playing up in the sprints and flags. Nivana Johnson was on fire, especially in the open flags, and Brydhi Stark had a fine sprint result in the U19. Rishan Poching did the talking on the water, gaining places in all of her events, plus she is starting to looking extremely comfortable paddling the ski.
